Comic Book Review: Star Trek Strange New Worlds – The Scorpius Run #4

by Zoe Gaussoin, Reporter

When life comes at you at warp speed, sometimes you just jump into the slipstream. That was the case for me, jumping in on this star studded series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – The Scorpius Run at issue 4.

Official Description:
As the Enterprise blitzes into the last leg of Zephyx’s space race from hell, the crew is confronted with a betrayal from within! The ship’s controls have been locked, and with Spock still separated from the crew, the crushing pressure of nearby stars, and Zephyx’s efforts to throw the ship off course, can Captain Pike ignore visions of impending doom long enough to see his crew to the finish line?

Creative Team:
Writer: Ryan Parrott
Artist: Angel Hernandez
Colorist: Nick Filardi
Letterer: Clayton Cowles

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – The Scorpius Run Artist Angel Hernadez and writer Ryan Parrott’s stardust superpositioned under the immense force of Star Trek fandom and they have exploded into a fiercely brilliant growing sector of the Star Trek galaxy: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.  The cover of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – The Scorpius Run #4 depicts a hacked Spock which leads to an informative colorful opening. Parrott’s writing continues to show his stellar ability to manifest alluring stories, such as in the recent MMPR and the Massive-Verse series. His nostalgia sprinkled writing coupled with explosive art made jumping in on Zephyx’s space race easy.  Hernadez depicts bursts of dangerously beautiful chemical reactions painted within gravity warped nebulas.  The Uvex ship, home of the Osmosis Jones borg, are attempting to absorb Spock. Pike has his hands full with Aisla as they have overtaken the ship while “just helping” him win. The Rovok ship with Corsok at the helm, is having some trouble infesting the Enterprise. Zephyx tunes in to watch his favorite daytime drama, The Scorpius Run, just in time for some game changing stunts that leave our heroes in peril.

I wish I could travel at Warp 9.9 speeds to reach the final comic of this 5 part series sooner. Did Spock’s mindmeld save them all? How will a displeased Zephyx act with his toys broken? What will they do with Una? What will the final image mean to the rest of the series? Tune in next month for the final installation of this 5-part series.
