TV Review: Sanctuary Returns to Syfy Tonight

Sanctuary kicks off its second season tonight on Syfy!
Amanda Tapping returns as Dr. Helen Magnus, who must stop the evil Cabal from destroying all the Sanctuary network that is scattered across the globe. As if things weren't bad enough, the assult is being lead by Magnus' own daughter, Ashley, who was captured by the Cabal in the first season finale. Thanks to our friends at Syfy, we have already seen the two part season premiere!

I must admit, that although I really enjoy Amanda Tapping and the team producing the show, I was not very impressed with the first season. I tried to watch the pilot and one of the later episodes, but just couldn't get into it. Now, skipping ahead to season two and watching these two hours, I am entirely invested in the fates of these heroes. The action and story is ramped up and things seem to be moving in an intersting direction. The added fact that they shoot all of these scenes against a green screen also makes the show more interesting because of the added flexibility for creating fantastic locations. The first ten minutes of the premiere has Magnus and her team bouncing across the globe, and the backdrops that they were able to create looked outstanding. Other highlights of the episode were the performances of Robin Dunne (Will Zimmerman), Christopher Heyerdahl (John Druitt) and Jonathan Young (Nikola Tesla, who was my favorite part of the premiere) who had some great scene stealing moments.

So, if you haven't been watching Sanctuary, you now have a reason to start. The premiere is very strong and as long as they keep it up, the season looks to be amazing.

ComicsOnline gives Sanctuary "The End of Nights" Parts One and Two  5 out of 5 CGI creatures.
