by Matt Sernaker, Editor-In-Chief

Absolute Green Lantern is back for another impressive chapter. Jo and Hal take drastic measures in their attempt to free the citizens of Evergreen. Will their heroic actions make a difference, or will they lead to more death and destruction? Get ready, because the truth about Abin Sur’s presence on Earth and more will be revealed in Absolute Green Lantern #4!

What exactly is happening in Evergreen? After the deaths of their friends, Jo and Hal are determined to get some answers out of Abin Sur. Their understanding of the Green Flame and all that has occurred is about to take a massive turn, but how this revelation will change their situation for better or worse has yet to be seen. Big name drops come from Jo’s conversation with Abin, including the Absolute version of OA and the Weaponers of Qard (not a typo). Additionally, we’ve gotten to see how Hal has slowly been consumed by the Black Hand in the present day, and this new installment takes that development to a horrifying new level. But don’t worry, someone new is on the case. What happens next will be at the discretion of the man you love to hate: Hector Hammond!

The title of this chapter is aptly named “Episode Four: Chaotic Action.” A lot is going on in this particular issue, but it manages to balance all of the story elements to give us one of the most satisfying chapters yet. Having Jo call out Abin Sur for a conversation couldn’t have been handled better, and the complexity of that interaction was executed with both grace and an unexpected intensity. Also, I loved the color selection that was used to highlight Abin’s greatest fear and the connection to Hal’s current dilemma with the Black Hand. The composition of color on that page was the standout of the issue, and I love that we now have a better understanding of how Green Lantern mythology fits into this universe.

Rating: ★★★★½

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
