Blu-ray Review: Unfaithful

From the Director of Fatal Attraction comes the 2002 film Unfaithful which Fox has just released on Blu-ray.

Story
The film stars Diane Lane and Richard Gere as Constance and Edward, a married couple from New York who need a little more passion in their lives. One day Constance goes to Manhattan and happens to bump into a man named Paul (Oliver Martinez) who is a book vendor. Paul hits on Constance and offers her a book of poetry, which she reluctantly accepts and then leaves. Constance finds Paul’s business card in the book the next day and calls him (dun dun dun) and the two go meet. One thing leads to another and the two end up dancing together and then (guess what happens next???) they KISS! Oh and then they have an affair.

Constance begins to lie to Edward about where she has been, which he doesn’t quite believe…so later he hires a detective to find the truth. The detective comes back with incriminating photos which devastates Richard. Richard goes and confronts Paul and ends up smashing him in the head with a snow globe! Moments after this happens Constance calls and leaves a voice-mail for Paul saying she has to end the affair…and Edward does what any guy in the situation would do…puts the body in the trunk of his car and leaves. What will happen? Will Edward get caught? What will Constance do? To find out all this and more you will have to watch because I am not going to spoil!

Overall
There were a lot of issues I had with the film, mainly the pacing. At times it just seemed to lag and just felt like it was dragging. If you like Richard Gere (who I am not the biggest fan of) you might like this film, but it’s really one of those take it or leave it type films. For a film that is claimed to be a seductive thriller…it really wasn’t that thrilling at all.

ComicsOnline gives Unfaithful 2 out of 5 “seductive thrillers”.
