DVD Review: Scrubs Season Eight

When NBC announced that they would not be renewing Scrubs for another season, most of us thought that would be it for the show. To our surprise, ABC was kind enough to pick up the comedy and allow it to continue its quirky storytelling…but with a few budget cut backs. While we did lose a few of the secondary characters, the show was joined by a new set of interns that fit in very well with the original cast…. The show came back and was the best that it had been in years. Now you can catch up on the most recent antics since the Complete Eighth season of Scrubs is now available on DVD!

Episode Highlights:
My Jerks- Introduces the new status quo of Sacred Heart, new interns and the new Chief of Medicine, Taylor Maddox, as played by Courtney Cox. Things start to get a little crazy when the interns don't handle their tasks and JD has an interesting run in with Maddox. And in a stunning turn of events, Maddox does the unthinkable and fires the Janitor!

My ABC's- This episode features many Sesame Street characters making apperances. Oscar the Grouch appears as the new Chief of Medicine, "Doctor" Grover appears and gets a high five from The Todd, and Elmo gets a little excited. JD, Elliot, and Dr. Cox all choose an intern to work with them directly on a project, but it soon becomes clear that some of them need a lot more work than others. Make sure you keep an ear out for an awesome accoustic version of the Sesame Street Theme at the end of the show.

My Lawyer's in Love- Ted finally catches a break and falls for a ukelele player named Gooch, who performs at the hospital for the sick patients. Gooch has an awesome set list and sets up some of the best moments of the episode. Do not miss this one. This is one of those episodes you can watch over and over and it keeps you entertained the entire time.

My Soul on Fire (Parts 1 and 2)- The Janitor is getting married in the Bahamas and the crew of Sacred Heart decide to take a impromptu trip to attend! The chance to learn the Janitor's real name is worth the trip, but things start to go wrong when relationships start falling apart. Can they get it together in time to enjoy this vacation?

My Finale- JD decides to leave Sacred Heart to be closer to his son, Sammy. While he isn't moving very far away, he still knows that this will be a huge change in his life. This episode was handled beautifuly and was the perfect way to wrap up a lot of these storylines. We learn more about the moment that JD and the Janitor first met, we get some glimpses of the future, and we even get to see Dr. Cox approve of JD. All in all, this was a great episode and it goes to show that Bill Lawerence really created some fantastic characters. The final moments of the show features cameos from a large number of former guests on the show and secondary characters.

Special Features:
-Bloopers
-Deleted Scenes
-Alternate Lines
-My Bahamas Vacation
-Scrubs Intern Webisodes

Overall:
This season was a perfect ending for the current storyline of Scrubs. It was recently announced that the show would be continuing in a new form, focusing on Dr. Cox and Turk in a Med School environment. Several of the new interns are making their way to the next season as well. This show has constantly held my attention since it began and I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. This is not your typical comedy. We will miss JD, Elliot, the Janitor, Ted, Kelso and the rest as they move on to new jobs…but we hope they show up in the new series regularly.

ComicsOnline gives Scrubs Season Eight – 4.5 out of 5 reasons that I'm no Superman.
