Manga Review: D N Angel Volume 13

Another episode of Daisuke’s world. A young teen dealing with an unusual genetic quirk. Whenever he has romantic thoughts, his alter ego comes out.  This is “Dark”, who is and art thief.  Add to this a romantic triangle of sorts.  Daisuke loves a twin, but at first his affection was directed at the wrong one, and Dark likes the other.  Luckily the twins like him/them back.  Although this certainly can make things complicated.

Highlight

A powerful beginning with an important reveal about the link between alter egos Dark and Krad. We discover two very important things in this volume.  As Satoshi Hiwatari and Daisuke Niwa embark on a rescue mission to save Risa Harada, we learn how their abilities (or curse) were created and the link it formed between the two families.  We also learn who Argentine, Risa’s kidnapper, is and what drives him in his actions.  Through their adventure, Daisuke’s “relationship” with Dark develops more complexity. Risa’s twin sister Riku is welcomes her back with enthusiasm, but  who rescued her from Argentine? Risa’s interpretation isn’t all there is to the story. The new knowledge of the connection between the characters of Daisuke/Dark and Satoshi/Krad set the story in an exciting direction.

Overall

I loved the graphics, especially the exciting, swirling motion of Dark.  There seems to be an evolving development in their artistic and emotional qualities since the earlier episodes.  The images made it a real page-turner and for me were the stars of the book.

This action packed edition is a  pivotal and indispensable part of the saga, it left me ready for more.
