DragonCon 2012: Dear Diary Day 3

By Mary Anne Butler (Mab), photographer and reporter

ComicsOnline’s Mab writes from her hotel room during Atlanta’s DragonCon 2012:

SATURDAY. You know what that means? The DragonCon parade!

I started my morning interviewing (one on one) Jamie Bamber, audio to be edited once we’re back home.

And for us, it meant walking uphill several blocks while keeping pace with Buffy producer Jane Espenson.  Also got to say good morning to smiling handsome non-fury footed former hobbit, Billy Boyd as he walked past us, news paper in hand.

Grand marshalls this year included Stan Lee, Lou Ferrigno, George Perez, James Randi, and Dean Cain. Hundreds of group entries with THOUSANDS of costumed participants make for one of the marathons of photography of the convention world.

I  managed to get myself into the Gillian Anderson (-SQUEE-) panel, to take notes (no recording, they were cracking down HARD) and photos.

We were regrettably delayed in getting to the very large DC Universe shoot hosted by the Superhero Costuming Forum (SCF), as the elevators were experiencing widespread malfunctions and complete stalls in one of the main hotels. BUT! We have LOTS to share from it once the images get edited down.  Things like a surprise appearance by Lois and Clark’s Superman Dean Cain, and the engagement of two members of the SCF (a classic 60’s Batman and Batgirl, she said YES!).  Highlight for me was a pair of Kryptonians, Lara and Jor-El styled from Superman The Movie.

After dinner we high tailed it over to the Hyatt for the DragonCon After Dark masquerade, hosted by Voltaire.

I’d write more and be more witty, but I’m fraking exhausted and we have a BSG costume shoot first thing in the morning.
