Advance Review: Power Rangers: Sins of the Future

by Matt Sernaker, Managing Editor

TIME FOR TIME FORCE!

Our favorite force from the future is back in an all-new adventure from Boom! Studios. Power Rangers: Sins of the Future features fan favorites Jen Scotts (Time Force Pink) and Wes Collins (Time Force Red) as they attempt to navigate their relationship after the events of the Power Rangers: Time Force television season. Time unfortunately does not appear to be on their side as threats new and old loom in the background. Who is the Time Force Black Ranger and what is their connection to our heroes?

Written by Matthew Erman (Bonding) and illustrated by Giuseppe Cafaro (Saban’s Power Rangers: Soul of The Dragon), fans are finally given the Time Force follow up that they have always wanted. Jen takes center stage as she fights to hold on to her past and future. The time travel twists will surely keep you guessing until the very end, but the creative team proves once again that she is one of the most interesting and capable Power Rangers of all time. Erman delivers a story that respects the characters and their universe, ensuring that these beloved heroes are treated with the utmost care. Cafaro was absolutely the right choice to illustrate this story, as the elegant designs and backdrops jump right off the page.

Over the last few years, readers have been treated to explorations of seasons past thanks to Kyle Higgins run on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the multiverse-spanning adventures in “Shattered Grid”, and the Tommy centric story of Saban’s Power Rangers: Soul of The Dragon. Boom! Studios also provided us with another adventure from seasons past in Saban’s Power Rangers Original Graphic Novel: The Psycho Path, a story that I felt missed the mark in many respects. Thankfully, Power Rangers: Sins of the Future is more in line with Soul of the Dragon, providing a unique tale that opens the doors for future stories.

Overall, Power Rangers: Sins of the Future honors the past and reaffirms the importance of the Time Force characters in the larger tapestry of the Power Rangers universe. This is a must-read for all Power Rangers fans.

(Managing Editor/Director of Media Relations) Matt interviewed MacGyver once (true story), and was invited on a submarine to the Arctic. It hasn't happened yet, but Matt hopes that some day he will get the call and he and Richard Dean Anderson will go off and have a wacky adventure.
