Comic Book Review: WildC.A.T.s #10

by Tony Rhea, Reporter

Being out of a job sucks. Being forced out of your job by new employees sucks worse. Imagine, then, how it feels to be the WildC.A.T.S right now. Now add a dash of Peacemaker, and a couple tablespoons of Batman, and you have the recipe for DC’s WildC.A.T.s #10!

Official Description:
Locked, loaded, and ready to roll…Grifter’s back, and the WildC.A.T.s are going to war!

Creative Team:
Writer: Matthew Rosenberg
Artists: Stephen Segovia & Tom Derenick
Colorist: Elmer Santos
Letterer: Ferran Delgado

Halo tries to undermine a deal between the President and Peacemaker, Cray and Priscilla deal with a BIG problem, and the rest of the team is greeted by their new(?) employer but rudely interrupted by Batman and friends.

Rosenberg delivers some salty dialogue while moving the story forward, delivering another funny and action-packed issue. By pitting a part of the team against Batman, Black Canary and Arsenal, he shows how capable and resourceful the team is even when exhausted. Rosenberg’s WildC.A.T.S aren’t afraid to take risks, and aren’t above manipulation to achieve their mission. This group of anti-heroes, under Rosenberg’s watch, are as entertaining as they are resourceful.

Segovia and Derenick don’t disappoint either, delivering bone-shattering action and providing plenty of opportunity for Santos to do some great work with lighting and shadow. There are some truly spectacular panels during the fight with Batman and his allies that are some of the best we’ve seen thus far from this series. We also get great fight between Cray and Maul, but the colors felt a little flat during some of these panels, and less vibrant in comparison to the previously mentioned Batman-inclusive panels.

Overall, this run of WildC.A.T.S continues to deliver and to excite. I continue to find myself looking forward to each issue, confident that I will be entertained and excited. Do yourself a favor and jump on board if you haven’t already (especially since Volume 1 releases later this month, collecting the first six issues!).
