DVD Review: Black Panther Motion Comic
We had iPads before you had televisions. What now, bitchez?
In 2005 Reginald Hudlin (House Party, House Party 2, House Party 3) and John Romita Jr. (Uncanny X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man, Invincible Iron Man, Kick-Ass) brought back Marvel’s first black hero into volume 3 of The Black Panther ongoing series. This is a great comic whose initial 6-issue arc was strong and lent itself to an animated miniseries perfectly, but really that’s not unique among great comics, right? What’s notable here is the how and why this particular comic arc got made into a miniseries.
DVD Review: Iron Man- Extremis Motion Comic
The past few years have given birth to a new way of experiencing our favorite comic book series along with giving newcomers an easy window into experiencing comic book series: The Motion Comic. Not exactly fully animated (nor is it fully still), Motion Comics add flare and voice acting to existing comic book titles out there. Recently we’ve been seeing more and more of these pop up, especially as mini web series that various comic book companies put out in episodic bits. Watchmen, Astonishing X-Men and even Batman: Mad Love have all been adapted into this new format, and now it is Iron Man’s turn with Warren Ellis’s Extremis storyline, which is now available on DVD.
DVD Review: Secret Origin: The Story of DC Comics
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman. We all grew up with these heroes around. Their comic books entertained us many a day during our childhoods. These films and television series fed our imaginations, and we played super heroes, or maybe even played a villain. Since the 1930’s, every generation had the same characters to look up to. And recently these characters have grown up into he kind of heroes that we all want to be in our current day and age. We know their stories and origins, but most of us know nothing about the company that publishes them. We may know most of the facts about the creations of the heroes, but all of the facts and how they relate are known only to the few who are practically historians on the subject. Now DC Comics has authorized, and released through Warner Brothers, a documentary on their seventy five year history, Secret Origin: The Story of DC Comics.
DVD Review: Astonishing X-Men- “Gifted” Motion Comic
Motion comics are becoming an increasingly popular way to bring comics to broader audience by using slight animations and voice acting. The latest comic to receive the multimedia treatment is Joss Whedon's astonishing run on X–Men. After years of crafting his masterful banter and wit-filled dialog on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly, Joss brings his uniquely snappy style of writing to X–Men.
Now Astonishing X-Men- "Gifted" The Complete Motion Comic is available on DVD!
Comic Con 2010 Interview: Fringe Producers Jeff Pinkner And J. H. Wyman
Fringe Executive Producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman are interviewed in a round table session. They would not divulge spoilers, but are very excited about the new season, and that we are knowledgeable fans ourselves.
Question: What can you tell us about the next season?
Both: Absolutely nothing.
Question: [Laughs; incoherent] Nothing?
Jeff Pinkner: Well, we don’t want to ruin it for you! It’s like Christmas. One opens the presents on Christmas day.
J.H. Wyman: There’s lots of love and a reason they’re all wrapped nice in colored paper and bows. Hopefully there are twenty-two of them
Comic Review: Blood Factory
The Blood Factory
While cruising the dealers’ floor at Comic Con, I came across several exhibits of interest. I want to review what was probably the most unusual booth I saw at the convention – The Blood Factory. The first thing you notice is the prop where a person gets in this table with their upper bodies visible, their lower bodies hidden behind a fleshless, dismembered lower body. This was a popular stop and always had a line of patrons waiting to imitate a victim. But there is more to The Blood Factory then a fun effect and pretty lab assistants.

Comics Interview: Mecha-Nation Exclusive with Greg Weisman
Mecha-Nation follows five young high school students who find that they have amazing new abilities and can transform into a new robotic fighing force for good. This team consists of Kevin (Stealth), Susie (Fahrenheit), Zahra (Charge), Ray (Tank) and Marcus (Blast).
This brand new series is distributed by Ape Entertainment and is a collaboration between Victor Cook, Greg Weisman and Greg Guler.
We had a chance to speak with Greg Weisman about the project:
Comic Review: Justice League of America #41
Justice League of America 41
Penciled by Mark Bagley and Written by James Robinson
I have to say that Justice League of America has been such a disappointment to me for a year or more. They started this series out with so much power and promise. Brad Meltzer wrote an incredibly too short run on this book and Dwayne McDuffie tried to keep it going, but it just wasn’t the same. Len Wein’s story involving Amos Fortune and Roulette was really a snooze.
To be fair, some of this might be attributed to the availability (or lack thereof) the “big shots”. Batman is “dead”, Superman is stationed on New Krypton and The Flash is – well – complicated right now, since DC is rebirthing him and I doubt they want to commit him to the team until that’s complete. Also, Green Lantern is fighting the Blackest Night throughout almost every book in the DC comics line.
