Movie Review: Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope

“When a woman tells you to grow up, that’s God’s way of telling you to get a new woman… There’s three billion women on the planet, and not a lot of great comics, so it’s an easy choice.” -Chuck Rosanski, Mile High Comics

by Kevin Gaussoin, Editor-in-Chief

San Diego Comic-Con is the cultural Mecca of geeks everywhere, the one place where we can all gather together and gaze across the vast landscape of all our varied fandom obsessions from superheroes to sci-fi to fantasy to horror to anime to video games and every related subject–Where we can not only hang out with each other but we can meet the creators and stars of all our favorite stuff–where ‘Trek and ‘Wars nerds can take up their sabers and phasers, not to battle each other but to pose with the next generation of geeks or to drink with the real Green Lantern or Duke Nukem and listen together to bands play songs about Aquaman or Laurence Fishburne and then look over and say to each other in the words of Joss Whedon: “Are we not dope?”

DVD Review: Hellacious Acres: The Case Of John Glass

A hoodied denizen of the new world!

Movie Review: The Hunger Games

May the odds be ever in your favor.

by Jennifer Bay and Karissa Barrows, Editors

I was given The Hunger Games boxed set of books for my birthday.  At the time, I had vaguely heard of it but knew nothing of the story.  After blazing through the series, I have waited impatiently for the release of the first film by the same name.  Karissa, conversely, had not yet read more than the first thirty pages of the first book at the time we saw this movie.  (She did, however, finish reading all three books in two days after seeing the film.)

DVD Review: Breaking Wind

by Chris Kane, Reviewer

A mere year after the release of the critically panned Vampires Suck, director Craig Moss (Bad Ass, The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It) weighs in with his direct-to-DVD spoof of the Twilight saga, Breaking Wind.  This film struck me as being a celluloid version of that knock-knock joke.  You know the one that goes knock-knock (who’s there?) I eat mop (I eat mop who?)  HA HA!  Yeah, Breaking Wind is a little like that joke: moronic, scatological, and kinda funny!

Movie Review: A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas

Hilariously inappropriate hijinx drive this vehicle to deliver Xmas early …and in 3D!

by Kendrick Gaussoin, Junior Editor

While Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay picked up almost immediately after the events of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas begins years later.

DVD Review: Your Highness

by Chris Learned Kane and Kimberly Learned Kane, Reviewers I was excited to see Your Highness. On paper, the movie justifies my excitation: it stars James Franco, Danny McBride, Natalie Portman, and Zooey Deschanel. The film boasts director David Gordon…

SHUT UP, CRIME!

Do you love Slither, The Office, X-Men, Juno, Kick-Ass, Tremors, or Empire Records?

Then you might SUPER-like this. James Gunn is the man.

Solomon Kane

The other day I was like “wtf ever happened to Solomon Kane coming out? Did it ever release?” and I just looked it up: it didn’t even make back half its budget. No wonder it had no marketing for the Blu-ray, but that doesn’t explain why I never knew it released in theaters OVER A YEAR AGO. wtf?

… as it turns out, THERE IS NO USA Blu-ray release!?! so lame.

DVD Review: Mister Foe

British director Peter MacKenzie and screen writer Ed Whitmore adapt the 2002 novel of the same name, a quirky, bittersweet, coming-of-age psychodrama by Peter Jinks.

Blu-ray Review: Austin Powers Collection

YEAH BABY!

When evil rears its head there is only one man who is brave enough, sexy enough, and shagadelic enough who can stop it. That man: Austin Powers. The hit trilogy of films starring former Saturday Night Live alumnus Mike Myers has made his Blu-ray debut with the Austin Powers Collection! Now you can relive all the of the hilarious movies in high definition.

DVD Review: 300 Limited 3-Disc Edition

“THIS. IS. SPARTA!”

Frank Miller is known for many things: His impressive story Sin City, saving the Batman Franchise with the definitive Batman story The Dark Knight Returns and his beautiful take on the tale of Leonidas and the Warriors of Sparta in the graphic novel 300. In 2007, Miller’s 300 made the jump to the big screen with the help of Director Zack Synder. Now the epic film 300 has been re-released on DVD in a new limited edition set!
